Students 16-17 years old can open their own My Checking account and start building a financial future for themselves. Students just need to bring in their Texas ID and social security card.
Students are also encouraged to participate in our jump-start classes, such as Financial Literacy 101, to learn how to best use a checking account to avoid mistakes that can lead to damaged credit.
In addition, students can explore our Student Life page for financial education tips to start their financial future on the right foot and to learn about exclusive scholarships and internships.

Q. What is Privilege Pay and how do I enroll?
A. Privilege Pay is a convenient service that pays withdrawals on your checking account, even when you may not have sufficient funds to cover the transaction. For a small fee, Privilege Pay, will pay your transaction(s) up to $500 (including fees and transactions).
Federal regulations require that you “opt-in” to take advantage of the Privilege Pay service for ATM* and one time debit card transactions using your VISA Check Plus debit card. If you do not opt-in for Privilege Pay, Generations will not be able to pay any overdrafts you may have for ATM or one-time debit card transactions, and the transaction will be denied. It is important to note that any VISA Check Plus card or ATM card that you have with Generations will be affected by these new regulations; however, checks are not.
If you choose to opt-in to Privilege Pay, there is no change to the current fee structure of $25 per insufficient funds transaction, up to $500 total coverage (including fees and transactions). We invite you to contact our Member Service Center at 210-230-9393 with any questions that you might have, or to opt-in to Privilege Pay. You can also register by completing this opt in form [link to downloadable form] and returning it to any branch. For your convenience, any authorized signer on a joint account may register for Privilege Pay.
You may also choose to use overdraft protection, which let's you link your checking and savings account to pay for a checking transaction when there isn't enough money in your account. When you link your checking account to your savings account, we will automatically transfer $100 increments (or up to the available funds if $100 is not available) to your checking account from your savings to cover the transaction, all free of charge. You can link your accounts when you open your checking account.
Q. How do I make transfers between accounts?
A. There are several options available for transferring funds between your accounts:
- Online banking: select the “Transfers” tab
- Over the telephone via an automated response service: call 210-229-1850 (TX toll-free 800-232-8178) and follow the prompts over the phone
- Set-up automatic transfers: visit any one of our locations to set-up a regular transfer of funds between your accounts.
