Many of Generations’ long-time employees started their career as a teller. So if you think you’d like to work for a credit union department someday—say in Finance, IT, Human Resources, Marketing, etc.—then a teller position may be a good place to start!

So what skills or work experience do you need to be a teller? Here are some of the requirements:
- You’ll need to have six months of cash handling experience and a history of accurate transactions. This could include work experience as a cashier at a restaurant or retail store.
- You’ll need six months of a financial institution and/or retail experience.
- An outgoing personality goes a long way in a teller position!
- At Generations, our members’ priority is our priority, so you’ll need to be customer-service oriented.
- Can you work well under pressure? If yes, you’d do well as a teller!
- You’ll need to be proficient with Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication skills are a must, and Spanish fluency is a plus!
