Smart Deposit: The next big thing on your smartphone is here.
Whether you’re at home, at the office or on the go, Smart Deposit lets you deposit checks anywhere, anytime right from your GFCU mobile app on your smartphone. Please note that funds will be placed on a 2-business day hold before being released. You will be notified of your specific hold time before making your deposit.

- Easy Accessibility: As a member, all you have to do is utilize our Online Banking service in order to access Smart Deposit on the GFCU Mobile App. If you already have the app, simply update to the most recent version, and you're set!
This service is for Generations Federal Credit Union members only. Certain restrictions apply. Your account(s) must be in good standing in order to use this service. Service is available to My Checking, Savings and Money Market accounts only. Daily and monthly deposit limitations may apply.
Smart Deposit allows you to deposit checks via the GFCU Mobile Banking App directly from your smartphone. Deposits can be made into your GFCU savings, checking and/or money market account. Simply take a picture of the front and back of the check and then select the account where you want to deposit your funds. It’s that easy!
Smart Deposit is available to GFCU members with accounts in good standing. If you do not see the option to conduct a mobile deposit within the app, something is preventing your access. Please contact Member Services at 210-229-1128 so we can further assist you.
You’ll need an active GFCU checking, savings or Money Market account, as well as the GFCU Mobile App installed on your smartphone.
Only domestic checks can be deposited through Smart Deposit. Specifically, the following types of properly endorsed checks:
- Personal checks
- Cashier/Official checks
- Teller checks
- U.S. Treasury checks*
Please note that the following check types cannot be deposited:
- Foreign checks
- Savings bonds
- Checks made payable to a business
- Third-party checks
- Post-dated checks
- Altered checks
- Travelers cheques
- Authorization required checks
- Non-negotiable items
- Money orders
*Please be sure to review the ‘properly endorsed’ question below for specific information on depositing Treasury checks.
Your balance will update immediately. You may also click on the history button within the mobile deposit area of the app for a listing of all deposited items.
For a check to be accepted by Smart Deposit, all signatures must be within 1.5 inches of the top edge on the back of the check. Also, please note that U.S. Treasury checks must be endorsed by all parties on the check. Additionally, all parties listed on the Treasury check must be signers on the GFCU account where the funds are deposited.
At this time, Smart Deposit can only deposit funds into your My Checking, Savings and/or Money Market accounts.
No, we can only accept domestic checks for deposit.
As with any check deposit, a hold can be placed depending on check eligibility type. The hold typically is 2 business days, but may vary. At the time of your Smart Deposit, you will be notified of the hold time frame.
Once you have made the Smart Deposit, please place the check in a safe place for a minimum of 14 days. When you have confirmed that the deposit was accepted and the funds have been released to your account, destroy the check. There is no need to mail the check to us.
No, please do not attempt to redeposit the check as it will be rejected during processing. If you discover an error with a deposit, please contact GFCU Member Services at 210-229-1128.
If you received a deposit receipt for your Smart Deposit, but your current balance is not updated with the correct amount, please contact Member Services during normal business hours at 210-229-1128.
Unfortunately, once a check has been deposited through Smart Deposit it has been entered into the system and cannot be deposited through Smart Deposit again. If you want to redeposit the returned check, you may do so by visiting any GFCU branch.
